It’s 2023 and there is no shortage of cute lil’ coffee memes and sayings.

“Death before decaf.”

“Don’t talk to me before I’ve had my coffee.”

“Ok, but first coffee.”

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We’ve heard them all. So, when you turn a well-worn phrase into an ad about coffee, you’d better come correct. And, showing up proper is just what the fine folks at Mischief are doing many times over, with their current Peet’s coffee campaign (including, here and here), particularly with this well earned play on a pretty standard fact.

It accomplishes the difficult task of being a stand along piece, but also very much part of the broader campaign—one that lays waste to the ever growing sugary menu at a certain Seattle coffee chain with a CEO who seems to hate basketball.

Call me a Bay Area native, because I am, but I’ve always been a Peet’s over Starbucks guy (even if it only is just slightly better). Trust me. I’m a coffee person. I would know.
