Sometimes, you just want a throwback. And sometimes that throwback is a throwback in and of itself. And sometimes that throwback to the throwback is about throwing back some refreshments.

And here we’ve arrived at the North Fork of Long Island, where Greenport Harbor Brewing Company makes its tasty ales.

Quite appropriate for a brewery with a whale-shaped logo to put out some ads that pay tribute to the Moby Dick era (not to brag, but I’ve read it—very worthwhile). Of course, the look and subject matter, evoke comparison to Melville and thankfully the language does not. That would make for an ad campaign that would be far too difficult of to write and/or read.

It should come as no surprise that these were created in the certifiable writing mecca that is Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis, home of too many great headline campaigns to count.

I love that the lines don’t really sell the beer. They just sell a feeling.

It’s like they’re saying, “This brewery makes beer that tastes like beer when beer was just beer.” It’s placing an importance on a beverage that’s stood the test of time, packing a historical punch of flavor in each hop.

Hell, I want one now. Might have to jump on the next flight out to JFK. Been too long since I’ve had the great brews of New York.

Hi, I’m Chase. I’ll be taking a few moments here and there to post about advertising writing that says things great, and not just straight.
