Good vs Bad

Say It Great

There’s so many companies out there that offer similar services, it’s pretty easy to find ads that talk about those services in similar ways. Still, there’s good ways and bad ways to say essentially the same thing. Take a company that offers a moving service, so you can relocate your home without moving a muscle.

Below is the first example of a line I find to be funny, but fucntionally bad.

Look, it got a chuckle out of me, but it borrows interest from the cultural cannon. That joke is going to expire sooner rather than later.

An example of a line that essentially uses the same joke concept, but in a timeless way is below.

Note the difference? One uses wordplay for it’s joke, the other just uses the cultural moment of vaping to get it’s laugh. Borrowing from the culture isn’t always going to work out and my guess it that in 10 years from now the vape line would get less of a chuckle than a “move you barely moved for.”

Of course, you may not agree. And, that’s fine.

Hi, I’m Chase. I’ll be taking a few moments here and there to post about advertising writing that says things great, and not just straight.
